Basements are usually known to be where people place their old stuff, the things that they don’t frequently use, and it is also known as the place where people do their laundry. Basically, you can do whatever you want with your own basement, however there are instances wherein the noise coming from above and through the concrete wall could leave you frustrated and stressed. Those who use their basement as their own music studio or a place where they play their musical instruments may have found themselves receiving complaints from their neighbors about the noise.

Before you do any work, you have to understand and access the four sides of the basement. The ceiling that is above it is the floor of the next level above your basement, it is where you and your family members walk around on when going to the living room or the kitchen.  The walls that are surrounding you are all concrete or wood with concrete poured on the them as base, and this is actually considered as a barrier.

Now you have to ask yourself, what will the basement be used for? Will it be a gaming room? An extra bedroom? A laundry room? A small music studio? A wine cellar? Or is it going to be for something that is completely different?

Once you have decided what your basement will be used for and you already made up your mind about soundproofing it then the next thing that you would need to do is to start preparing the materials that you will need for the project and things that you will need to learn on how to soundproof a basement.

The first thing that you would need to purchase are wood packing pallets, and then you will need carpet remnants. You will also need a pair of heavy shears that you will use to cut through metal, a cordless drill driver and a box of screws. Once you have all of these materials, you can start working on soundproofing your basement as you have the materials needed that gives you the idea on how to soundproof a basement.

Measure how much wood packing pallets you will need, there are instances wherein a basement needs two wood pallets so that a wall can be formed, and the other wooden pallet can overlap with the ceiling joists. This will then isolate your basement from the outside world. You need to connect and form the wooden packing pallets to each other and to the joists that can be seen on your ceiling by using the screw and screwing them together using your cordless drill-driver. Once you have your wood pallet wall you can start covering the sides of your basement wall with the carpet. You have to make sure that the carpet covers the wooden packing pallet individually instead of just covering it all together so that no soundwaves will come in and out of the basement.
